When baseball caps were invented they were designed to block the sun and for the bill to be worn forward. It seems in modern society we wear baseball caps in every direction except forward. A cap can be put on a head with the bill facing any of the 360 degrees available and people do it to. To complicate the idea more people cock the hats and wear it sideways. Sometimes it appears that it is part of the dressing ritual when you stand in front a mirror to make sure your hat is at the right angle.
